This once sleepy fishing village has become very popular with tourists, and Cadaqués is extremely well kept as a result. People come for the excellent hiking and refreshing solitude that can be found in this huge protected national park that juts out into the ‘Wild Coast’.
Many are here because of Salvador Dalí, whose home and studio in nearby Port Lligat is a mecca for art lovers from all over the world and whose museum is just a 45-minute drive away in Figueres. True art aficionados will also know that Picasso, Miró and Duchamp were also among the many artists who spent time here.
Barcelona is just a two hour 15 minute drive down the coast, and many other spectacular jewels of the famous Costa Brava can be found along the way. The motorway at Figueres makes it easy to head south or north to the nearby French border, and High-Speed trains also stop here, giving excellent rail access to France and beyond.
The airport at Girona is just 1 hour 15 minutes away in the car, or Barcelona is another option for air travel.
